For Immediate Release 22 March, 2010 City of Omaha and Douglas County, Nebraska, Migrate to Cityworks Server MMS
Cityworks Utilized in Many Areas with Future Expansion into Environmental Group
Sandy, UT —Douglas County, Nebraska, which encompasses the City of Omaha, recently made the transition to Cityworks Server MMS by Azteca Systems, Inc., the leading provider of GIS-centric management solutions. Already experiencing benefits from the software as an existing user of Cityworks Desktop, the County decided to upgrade to Cityworks Server MMS, Azteca’s next generation, browser-based asset maintenance management system. With such solid results resulting from the flexibility of this state-of-the-art system, the Omaha Public Works Stormwater group has gone live with the system. Other departments also plan to implement Cityworks Server MMS in the near future.
With the City of Omaha located within Douglas County, the two agencies function separately but share several resources. Dissatisfied with their previous system and processes, in 2004 the Douglas County Engineers Office purchased Cityworks to track work costs and assist with the GASB reporting compliance associated with their roads and highway infrastructure. As the Engineers Office demonstrated success with the system, some City departments decided to follow suit and implement Cityworks. The Public Works Streets and Sewer Divisions went online with Cityworks in 2006. In 2008, the Public Works Construction Division implemented Cityworks. As time progressed, the City recognized Cityworks could benefit the Stormwater Management Group and the City’s barricade contractor. Around this same time, Cityworks Server MMS was released and the agencies decided to upgrade to Server MMS, providing increased flexibility for the Stormwater Group and simplifying the Barricade Contractor’s use of the system. Around this same time, the Douglas County GIS Department began work on consolidating the City and County Cityworks databases. Employees, materials, and work templates in the County’s Cityworks database were mirrored in the City’s database and the City was added as a separate domain. Also influencing the County’s decision was the fact that Cityworks Desktop and Server MMS can coexist using the same Cityworks database which provides users the flexibility of migrating to Server over time. "The flexibility of Cityworks made it easy to implement Cityworks Server for our Stormwater group,” states Steve Cacioppo, GIS Analyst at the Douglas County GIS Department. “The utilization of Cityworks Server has resulted in improvements to their workflow and reporting capabilities. Future expansion should be easy as the software is easily adaptable to other departments within the City of Omaha and Douglas County.” The County and City have high expectations for the results they will experience using Cityworks Server MMS and are already beginning to see its benefits. “Cityworks Server MMS is Azteca’s next generation software and the first web-based, GIS-centric maintenance management system,” states Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems. “Built exclusively on ESRI’s ArcGIS Server, this product is superior to any maintenance management system on the market and offers unsurpassed enterprise flexibility. We are pleased that Douglas County and the City of Omaha have grabbed hold of the product and are beginning to experience the fantastic results it has to offer.” For more information, contact:
